BLOGGING THROUGH DAY 7 OF QUARANTINE ON CORONADO ISLAND

Long time no see on the blog! During this quarantine, I’ve decided to get back into journaling and blogging to keep both you and myself entertained. It might feel like you’ve missed a whole season of updates, so I’ll try to catch you up as we go. In the meantime, stay safe and wash your hands!

It’s now Day 6 of quarantine, and honestly, things have been going well so far. We’re still safe in our campground, though I sometimes worry about being allowed to stay here for the duration of this crisis. For now, it seems like we’re okay.

My husband went back to work only to find out that his battalion is operating with just 20% of the usual staff, and he didn’t get that memo—*facepalm*. So now, he and his assistant will be working a mixed schedule of two-day and three-day weeks.

Coronado has shut down some parks, but thankfully, the beaches are still open. Being able to enjoy such beautiful and open spaces has been a real blessing, and I’m savoring every moment, even though I’m not sure how long it will last.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you might have noticed a long period of silence. I love blogging, but life just took over. I don’t have any excuses, but I do have some ideas about what happened.

First off, a lot of people in my social circles started reading my blog. While I’ve never been anonymous, I’ve also never shared my blog on my personal social media. Why? Because, frankly, I don’t need to hear about your job if you’re an accountant, a teacher, or any other profession, just as you probably don’t want to hear all the details about my blog.

Before I started blogging in 2012, I wrote travel articles. Friends and family would ask for the URLs, write them down, and then apologize months later for not reading them. I didn’t mind, but I stopped bothering with sharing URLs.

So, with this blog, I never promoted it personally. I wanted it to grow on its own without my mom feeling obliged to share it. But people still found out. Friends googled me, my assistant accidentally shared a post on my personal page, and some just saw my face when I started writing for bigger sites. It felt weird having such an open journal accessible to everyone.

Then I questioned the purpose of this blog. I started it to share my journey to financial independence. Once I achieved that and established a happy routine of walking dogs, swimming in lakes, and drinking beers at sunset, there wasn’t much left to talk about. I was content and stopped blogging. Revenue stayed steady for a while, which didn’t motivate me to return. Eventually, it dropped, but not enough to push me back.

Finally, laziness set in. Just like with nutrition or going to the gym, it’s hard to get back into a good habit once you fall off. It took a virus and an economic collapse to get me back in front of the computer to reflect on life. And I enjoy it. I hope to be more consistent with it now.

Having moved to the US, married an active-duty military serviceman, and living in pricey San Diego in an RV, I think I have some stories to share. So, stay tuned for more updates!
