First Day of Quarantine on Coronado Island – Greetings, Everyone!

Hey there! It’s been a while since I last blogged. With this quarantine, I’ve decided to get back into journaling and blogging for some entertainment for both you and me. It might seem like you’ve missed a lot, but I’ll try to catch you up as we go along. In the meantime, stay safe and remember to wash your hands.

So, here we are, Day 1 of quarantine starting March 20. Everyone in California now has to stay home unless it’s for essentials like food, medical care, or essential jobs like working in a grocery store, bank, or gas station.

The days leading up to this were really stressful. I’m currently living in an RV on a military base in San Diego with my U.S. Marine husband (yeah, you might have missed a few seasons!), and yesterday, the RV park told us they were closing due to the virus.

I was worried we’d end up on the streets of San Diego, which isn’t allowed, or I’d have to find a place in the forest with my dogs while my husband continued working. Finding a furnished apartment that allows two giant Great Danes during a city lockdown didn’t seem doable.

Thankfully, we found another military RV park on Coronado Island at the last minute. I joked about having a few Coronas while waiting out the Coronavirus, and that’s when I started this journal. A few thoughts for now:

We’re really lucky to have a place to stay. The campground is beautiful, right on the beach, and there are only about 40 of us here. They say they won’t close and make us leave, but I’m still thinking about backup plans, all the way to plan Z. Plan Z would be flying back to France, which would be terrible, so let’s hope plan A sticks.

People here are not respecting social distancing. While walking my dogs, a neighbor came over to pet them and chat like everything was normal. Another person did the same at our spot. I doubt this will last for two weeks.

On the bright side, financial independence is one less thing to worry about. And I’m glad I stocked up on books from the library.

Today, we had to move to another spot, but the campground is trying to get everyone settled for the quarantine and won’t be accepting new people next week. I went out to get my car, which we left behind during the move. The streets were mostly empty, but there were still gatherings on my husband’s military base and elsewhere, with people not social distancing.

I really hope people understand that the longer they ignore the order, the longer it’ll be before things return to normal.

So, how about you? Where are you, and how is this surreal situation unfolding for you?
